Golden Morning Bagels is a cozy bakery-style bagel recipe that brings the scent of fresh dough and toasted wheat right into your kitchen. Makes: 8 Bagels Ingredients: For the Dough •3 ½ cups all purpose flour (plus extra for dusting) •2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet) •1 tbsp sugar •1 ½ tsp salt •1 cup warm water (105–110 °F / 40–43 °C) •1 tbsp honey or maple syrup For Boiling •6 cups water •2 tbsp sugar or 1 tbsp honey For Finishing •1 egg, whisked (for glaze) •Optional toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a sprinkle of flaked salt Instructions: 1. Mix and Knead the Dough •Mix together, in a big bowl, the water, sugar, and yeast. •Wait 5 minutes for the mixture to look slightly foamy. •Add the honey, salt, and flour. •Use a sturdy spoon or spatula to bring everything together until you have a shaggy, uneven dough. •Transfer it to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until it feels elastic and smooth to the touch. •If it begins clinging to your hands, dust with just enough flour to make it workable. •Shape the dough into a round, smooth mass and set it inside a greased bowl. •Turn it once to coat and cover the top with a kitchen towel. •Let it rest 1 hour, or until doubled in size. 2. Shape the Bagels •Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 pieces. •Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center with your finger and spin gently to widen. •Place each ring on parchment paper, cover lightly, and rest about 15 minutes. 3. Boil the Bagels •Bring 6 cups of water to a simmer in a wide pot and stir in the sugar. •Preheat your oven to  425 °F / 220 °C. •Lower a few bagels into the simmering water at a time and cook each side for 1 minute. •Remove carefully and let any excess water drip off before setting them on a towel. 4. Bake •Arrange the boiled bagels evenly on a parchment lined tray. •Lightly coat the tops with the beaten egg to give them a rich golden sheen once baked. •Add your favorite toppings, or leave them plain for that smooth, café look. •Bake 18–20 minutes, or until the bagels are deep golden-brown and sound slightly hollow when tapped beneath. ••Move to a rack to cool. Serving Suggestions: •Enjoy warm with whipped butter or smooth cream cheese. •Add smoked salmon, tomato, and herbs for brunch flair. •Try sweet pairings like honey, nut butter, or fresh berries. Final Thoughts: These bagels celebrate patience and comfort — soft at heart, crisp on the outside, and beautifully golden from a home oven. Every bite carries the care that only homemade bread can bring.
